Growth Factors & Stem Cells

Growth Factors

Autologous Growth Factors (PRGF/PRF) technology opens new perspectives in the area of human tissue regeneration and is a valuable tool to treat a wide range of tissue injuries. Autologous Growth Factors (PRGF/PRF) permit the body to take advantage of the normal healing pathways at a greatly accelerated rate. During the healing process, the body rushes many cells and cell types to the wound in order to initiate the healing process. One of those cell types is platelets. Platelets perform many functions, including formation of a blood clot and release of growth factors (GF) into the wound. These growth factors function to assist the body in repairing itself by stimulating stem cells to regenerate new tissues. The more growth factors released into the wound, the more stem cells stimulated to produce new host tissue.

Autologous Growth Factors (PRGF/PRF) Have Many Advantages

Safety: Autologous Growth Factors (PRGF/PRF) are by-product of the patient’s own blood, so disease transmission is not an issue.

Faster healing: The supersaturation of the wound with growth factors, produces an increase of tissue synthesis and thus faster tissue regeneration.

Cost effectiveness: Since Autologous Growth Factors (PRGF/PRF) harvesting is done with only a small amount of blood in our, the patient need not incur the expense of the harvesting procedure in hospital or at the blood bank.

Frequently Asked Questions about Autologous Growth Factors (PRGF/PRF)

Is the procedure safe?

Yes. During the outpatient surgical procedure a small amount of your own blood is drawn out via the IV. This blood is then placed in the centrifuge machine and spun down. In less than 15 minutes, the Autologous Growth Factors (PRGF/PRF) are formed and ready to use.

Should Autologous Growth Factors (PRGF/PRF) used in all bone and gum grafting cases?

In the majority of cases, application of Autologous Growth Factors (PRGF/PRF) to the graft will make the surgical site heal faster and more efficiently.

Stem Cells (AmnioMTM™)- Regenerative?

AminioMTM is a cellular allograft derived from the placental organ. It is derived from live, healthy donors that are pre-screened during pregnancy and is harvested during routine cesarean section delivery. AmnioMTM contains cells, extra-cellular matrix and growth factors all of which are essential in the wound healing process. The multipotent stem cells contained in AmnioMTM have the ability to differentiate into all three germ layers of the human body. This complex allograft delivers osteogenic, osteoconductive and osteoinductive elements that enhance and accelerate wound, soft tissue and bone healing.

AmnioMTM can be used to enhance the results of periodontal, oral and facial plastic surgery. The benefits include accelerated wound healing, decreased morbidity and reduced scarring.
