Dr. Lanny Garvar

Dr. Lanny Garvar was born in Brooklyn in 1941 and raised and educated on Long Island, New York. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Arts and Science at New York University, followed by a D.M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1967.
After graduating from dental school, he completed a four-year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Jewish Hospital Medical Center of Brooklyn and its Greenpoint affiliate. Upon completing his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency, Dr. Garvar served over two years on active duty in the United States Air Force followed by seventeen years in the active reserves. He was the recipient of the United States Air Force Commendation Medal and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Dr. Garvar has been board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons since 1972. Each year since then he has attended numerous continuing education courses to maintain high standards of care in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is also Board Certified by the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.
Dr. Garvar has been in private practice in Tamarac and Plantation, Florida with Dr. Stanley Stewart since 1975. He served on the staff at three hospitals in Broward County (University Hospital and Medical Center, Westside Regional Medical Center and Coral Springs Medical Center). Dr. Garvar has served as Vice Chief of Surgery and Chairman of the Bylaws Committee at University Hospital and Medical Center in Tamarac, Florida and was a member of that hospital’s Credentials and Qualifications Committee. He is a member and past president of the Florida Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Garvar has received the Florida Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Committee Man of the Year Award, as well as its Presidents Award. He also served as Chairman of that society’s committee on healthcare plans.
On the national scene, Dr. Garvar has been a member, served, and chaired a number of committees of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. In 1991, he was honored to receive the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Committee Man of the Year Award and in 2003 he received the prestigious Presidential Achievement Award. Dr. Garvar represented the American Dental Association and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons on the Advisory Committee to the influential American Medical Association Relative Value Update Committee. He has served as the Southeastern District Trustee to the Board of Trustees of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
On the local level, Dr. Garvar was an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine. He served as past president of the Broward County Dental Research Clinic and it’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery section.
Dr. Garvar is a member of many associations including the American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, Broward County Dental Association, American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Florida Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Florida Dental Society of Anesthesiology, Academy of Osteointegration, International Congress of Oral and Implantology, and American College of Oral Implantology.
