Injectable Soft Tissue Fillers – Restylane®, Perlane® and Juvéderm®

Many people are looking for that slightly fuller shape for their chin, or perhaps a rounder more sensuous contour for their cheeks or lips. Just a touch of additional volume can make an enormous difference to your appearance.

The ideal approach would fill in the lines and creases that normally develop, and restore fullness to the lips and cheeks. It would be safe and totally compatible with the body. And it would last for many years. Until now, no treatment has met those high standards. However, Restylane®, Perlane® and Juvéderm® are finally here.

Unlike collagen (which lasts 2 to 4 months), the benefits of Restylane®, Perlane® and Juvéderm® treatment should be visible for 6-8 months, depending on the location of the treatment and the nature of your skin. For example, highly mobile areas like the lips tend to require at least a touch-up treatment after about 4 months. Areas where there is less movement may only require additional treatment after 8 months. Experience has shown that smaller amounts of Perlane®, Restylane® and Juvéderm® are often needed for maintenance than for the initial correction.

Common uses for Restylane®, Perlane® and Juvéderm® include:

  • filling and smoothing folds and wrinkles of the face
  • filling and smoothing acne scars and skin defects
  • filling and smoothing nasolabial folds (between your nose, mouth and cheeks)
  • reducing horizontal forehead lines
  • reducing frown lines between the eye brows
  • chin augmentation
  • elevating depressed corners of the mouth, also known as “marionette lines”
  • lip enhancement including augmentation, and treatment of the edges of the lips and wrinkles around the lips to stop lipstick from bleeding onto the surrounding skin
  • filling depressions around the eyes
  • augmentation of cheeks or bridge of the nose
  • correcting some types of irregularities of the nose

The Procedure

A majority of patients are able to undergo this procedure with a topical anesthetic applied to the skin in the area of proposed treatment. If any discomfort should be noted Dr. Sawisch and Dr. Schaumberg will provide additional local anesthesia for your comfort. These procedures have minimal discomfort and require very little down time. Most patients return to work the very same day with only mild redness at the injection sites, which will dissipate in an hour or two.
